Structure and functionality:
A so-called Stratified storage is a device that stores heat. As a heat storage component, it is a component of heating technology that significantly increases the efficiency of a heating system. It stores excess heat and feeds it into the heating system. This maximizes heat utilization and reduces losses compared to a heating system without a stratified storage tank.
Thanks to a heat exchanger, for example, the upper, hot layer of stored water can be used for bathing or showering, and the only moderately warm middle layer can be used to keep the heating at the minimum room temperature at night.
This is how the Stratified storage The stored heat energy is even more effective than a combination or buffer storage tank in standard design and can therefore also be dimensioned smaller than the two aforementioned storage types.
If a solar thermal system is part of the heating system, the stratified storage tank is absolutely necessary in order to integrate it at all.
Water serves as the storage medium in the stratified storage tank.
That is why the stratified storage tank is also called a hot water storage tank.
